My name is Shay’na Fields. I’m the Founder of Operation 50 Speaks Inc., a non-profit organization where our mission is to educate ALL citizens, nation-wide, on the importance of our voice in the local government, how it directly affects us, and to develop creative initiatives to engage our peers within governmental affairs.

I know you’re probably thinking that “50” represents 50 states.. Not quite!
50 represents the number of “Change Agents” (you) that will join us at city council meetings, town halls, & other local governmental affairs in your city! Our goal is to see droves of young adults attending city council, commissioner, and town hall meetings across the country as if they were headed to the mall or a social event.

(During the Mayoral Race of Atlanta in 2017, my members & I had the pleasure of attending a forum hosted by WSBTV Channel 2 & KISS 104.1. We were able to network with local officials & media correspondents, participate in a Q&A concerning issues affecting our city, and actively engage with mayoral candidates of Atlanta including our current Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms.)

Imagine what your city would look like within the next three to five years if more families and members of your community increased the voter turnout percentage, and started showing up at local government meetings!

Education is the solution to a lot of our social justice issues in America.
How can we bring effective change if we aren’t educated on the system designed to aid us in the creation of the change we want to see?

The local government is responsible for setting up rules and regulations for businesses, speed limits, our roads, beautification of the city, economic, industrial, and residential development, setting taxes for public services, public school funding, and of course public safety. It’s important to pay attention and be aware of your city! One day, there may be an advertisement for a Tax Increase Proposal Meeting at City Council, and if you aren’t there to state whether you agree or disagree with your taxes being raised, then you’ve missed out on an opportunity to contribute your concerns to your city leaders! The collective and progressive change that we seek is in plain sight, we just have to seize every opportunity we get to obtain it!

 

Over the past few years, young adults have gone from a relaxed citizenship to being surged into political engagement and advocacy. Now we realize how important it is for us to make our voices heard because the future depends on it. Our future depends on it. Don’t just rely on Congress to choose what’s best for us, let’s get before our local elected leaders and speak up and speak out!

 

Not to my surprise, many are in fear of the federal government and especially the presidential election because they believe that the executive branch is the biggest decision maker in our country but, that’s not completely true! We're here to eradicate that fear by educating the masses on their powerful rights as citizens and how to adequately use them at the local level.

 

Our everyday lives are affected by the local government, a large percentage of citizens feel as though their voice is futile.. The majority doesn’t even know where to start..

And that’s why we need your help to ignite a sense of power within our peers through education.

Okay, I know 50 sounds like a lot.. whew!
BUT, I promise with our strategy it’s not impossible!

That’s why it’s called “Operation” 50 Speaks, we are CHANGE AGENTS on a MISSION to revolutionize mindsets! It’s our time now.
